This year has introduced many stunning interior design trends so far, and we are only a few months into 2024! The 70s seem to be making a subtle comeback, and color is carefully creeping into living rooms and kitchens. We are seeing less of the black and white granite, and more warmth and personality. While there are several incredible styles to keep an eye out for, the following are the top three that we have noticed and are absolutely thrilled for!
Earthy, colorful hues
Indoor plants have been popular for some time now, but we are truly seeing an evolution in the elemental aspects of a home. Palettes of greens, browns, and tans are truly coming to life and taking over main rooms, with baskets of large, vibrant plants crowding corners and windowsills. These styles invite a fresh and lively atmosphere that feels almost cozy. While previous trends evoked a classier feel, these new designs welcome creativity and the desire to get a little bit messy. Homeowners are being encouraged to express themselves in unique and playful ways. As we remind ourselves to connect with nature and accommodate our inner child, we are seeing more and more earth pour indoors.
Arches and curved shelving
Similarly to the playful nature of earth elements, rotunity is coming into style as well! Entryways and hallways have been transformed into stunning arches, serving as a soft and inviting design. In addition to arches, curved shelving has been appearing more often, too. Typically, the shelving is placed at a corner in a hallway, or centered in a main room, removing previous harsh angles and drawing attention to the curvatures. Out goes the cold, industrial style, and in comes the careful layout of lively and buoyant shapes.
Social seating
Similarly to the seating pit from the 70s, social seating is currently having its moment. Rooms are being dedicated solely for conversation and hosting, rather than all chairs facing a television. A coffee table is usually laid out in the center, with furniture arranged neatly to face each other. A record player and a bookshelf hang in this room, so that guests are invited to enjoy the present moment, away from phones. This style, like the others mentioned, encourages play. Every couch and chair is different and unique, and oblong rugs and gallery walls are added for an abstract touch. The textures and looks don’t have to match, but the earthy color palette draws everything together in a seamless way. 2024 is the year for screens being removed as the central focus of the room, and instead, allowing people to dominate the space.
A commonality among these three interior design styles is playfulness. Remember that, when designing your home, having fun is most important. Take these inspirations with a grain of salt, and focus on cultivating an environment that truly resonates with you.
